A small group huddled together Tuesday, chatting excitedly and holding colorful balloons as they waited for Robin Farris to walk through the doors of the Colorado Women’s Correctional Facility in Denver for the first time in more than 32 years. When the time finally came, Farris, overcome with emotion, hugged her attorneys tightly, thanking them, and then embraced each family member. But it wasn’t until her 38-year-old daughter walked in to greet the mom she lost to prison at just 6 years old that the crowd took a step back.Janell Farris cried into her mother’s arms as the pair rocked back and forth.“We get to walk out of here,” Robin Farris said as she held her. “We’re leaving.”Farris’ request for clemency was granted by Gov. Jared Polis in December. The 61-year-old was convicted in 1991 of killing the Aurora woman she was dating at the time, Beatrice King, and her 2014 clemency petition was denied by then-Gov. Bud Black has talked the talk, now it’s up to his pitchers to clean up the walks.“It’s something that we have stressed to the pitchers from Day 1 of spring training,” the manager said Saturday after Rockies pitchers issued eight walks in an 8-4 loss at San Diego. “They are aware of it. Tonight, the third game of the year, it didn’t happen for us. Over the long haul, we have to rectify what happened tonight and not let that happen again.”But it happened again Monday night in a 13-4 loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Starter Ryan Feltner walked five in just 4 2/3 innings. He threw 92 pitches before getting the hook.“We’ve got to get over the efficiency hurdle,” Black told reporters in Los Angeles. “There’s too often that the pitch count is run up there (early), and (Feltner’s) got to be in the strike zone more often.”Last season, Colorado averaged 3.40 walks per nine innings, the sixth-highest rate in the majors. It’s currently too difficult for the DA to establish a case a jury relates to and will understand as a crime.Hate has become normative in our society.
