Q: I would volunteer for the over-75 driving test. November marks 60 years with my drivers license without ever hitting someone. On the way to our 53rd wedding anniversary dinner recently, I avoided a young guy doing donuts on his bike in the middle of the road. I helped stop traffic in both directions until he tired of his insane stunt.Dana Charles, San JoseA: A reader suggested that drivers 75 and older be required to take a driving test when renewing their driver’s license. Dana was the only person to agree. Others thought driving tests would be misplaced if focused on older drivers, as they feel the most dangerous drivers are reckless drivers of any age.Q: Have you noticed the new patches on Highway 4 leading up the hill toward Bay Point, just before the Willow Pass exit? Coincidentally, such are the very areas that state Sen. Steve Glazier represents. There can be great life-long rewards from graduating from a state university, even though it takes longer than four years to do so. Many young people are simply not ready or able to complete that task in four years, which, for most, would require working part-time, plus taking some summer school courses.Don’t be fooled by incentives to reward students who are best-prepared and able to complete four-year college degrees … at the expense of others.Georg...How a year without Roe shifted American views on abortion

For decades, Americans had settled around an uneasy truce on abortion. Even if most people weren’t happy with the status quo, public opinion about the legality and morality of abortion remained relatively static. But the Supreme Court’s decision last summer overturning Roe v. Wade set off a seismic change, in one swoop striking down a federal right to abortion that had existed for 50 years, long enough that women of reproductive age had never lived in a world without it. As the decision triggered state bans and animated voters in the midterms, it shook complacency and forced many people to reconsider their positions. In the year since, polling shows that what had been considered stable ground has begun to shift: For the first time, a majority of Americans say abortion is “morally acceptable.” A majority now believes abortion laws are too strict. They are significantly more likely to identify, in the language of polls, as “pro-choice” over “pro-life,” for the first time in two decades...Who's still left on the Warriors' 2022 championship team?

CHICAGO (AP) — Tim Anderson has returned to the Chicago White Sox lineup at a new position, starting at second base on Friday night against Boston.Anderson left last weekend’s 4-3 victory at Seattle because of right shoulder soreness. The All-Star shortstop, who made his major league debut in 2016, was limited to one pinch-hitting appearance over the team’s next four games.Manager Pedro Grifol originally had rookie Zach Remillard at second for the opener of a three-game series against the Red Sox. But he changed his mind after conversations with Anderson and general manager Rick Hahn.“(Anderson) brought it up to me where I can play second if we need it,” Grifol said. “I asked him how do you feel with it, and he said, ‘I’d like to go over there to get in the lineup. I would like to be a part of this thing.’ We talked about it. Obviously got Rick involved and he’s going to play second base.”It was Anderson’s first big league appearance at second.
